How can I get XP to recognize the entire hard drive space? View 5 Replies This is the same total as on the control panel / disc management. The system should have 80 gb hard drive however the statement above the partion says only 75gb is available to use. I deleted the partion for the recovery however after doing so it is not shown as unpartiton space. I then started my windows xp home eddition with the cd and went to the section to redo the partitions.

I know that some 'old' mobos won't show more than 137gb but my mobo had no trouble showing up the 200gb hard drive I'm replacing, nor the 250gb primary drive. I have read a number of forums (solutions) but non seem to apply.

I have formatted it and partitioned it and in disk management / Acronis Disk Director 10 it only shows 127.99GB!!! (it is used as a slave drive) I plugged it in and booted up and went into the BIOS settings and it only shows 136GB. My new hard drive is a Western Digital WD2500 Caviar SE Enhanced IDE Hard Drive 250GB. I have bought a hard drive to replace a faulty? (slow) The make of the one I'm replacing is a Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 200GB ata/133 HD (IDE connector, as I my mobo is an old one and doesn't have SATA!!!)
